Commercial shoots are where creativity meets purpose:
Commercial shoots are where creativity meets purpose. Whether it's for a small business or a large corporation, commercial photography is all about capturing the essence of a brand and telling its story through powerful imagery.
When I started my business over 8 years ago, I never imagined that commercial shoots would become a bigger focus than family sessions! Back in 2019, I started marketing for commercial work to fill the winter lull (since it’s usually a quieter time for family bookings), and now commercial shoots make up the biggest part of what I do.
When I first dipped my toes into commercial photography, I thought I’d be capturing images for the occasional small business, helping people showcase their start-ups and jazz up their social media. Fast forward to now, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with brands like Bupa, Tourism North East, Alpine Shire Council, and MAMA. My images have even made their way into a book (Futuresteading), magazines (RM Williams Outback and ABC Organic Gardener, to name a couple), tourism brochures, and have even graced a billboard and a bus!
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of businesses across various industries, from tourism and hospitality to healthcare and local government. Each shoot brings its own set of challenges and rewards, whether it's capturing the energy of a bustling restaurant, the serenity of a mountain hike, or the professionalism of a corporate office. The common thread in all these shoots is the opportunity to bring someone’s vision to life, to create images that not only look great but also resonate with the target audience.
In commercial photography, it’s all about maximizing the available light, making quick decisions, and capturing the right moment. My approach is to keep things as natural as possible, allowing the scene to unfold and capturing the authenticity of the moment. Of course, some shoots require more direction, and I’ve developed the skills to guide people and props into place to achieve the best results.
At the end of the day, commercial shoots are about more than just taking pictures. They’re about creating a visual story that communicates the heart and soul of a brand. And for me, there’s nothing more rewarding than knowing I’ve helped a business connect with its audience through the power of photography.
